Day 1: Machachi 3,000 masl – Sincholagua summit 4,920 masl – return to Machachi
Our Sincholagua Volcano Summit day starts very early, 05:00 am, in the town of Machachi. We take a gravel-dirt road (in a 4x4 car) which leads us to the community of Loreto del Pedregal and the hacienda, we cross the river Pita and in less than an hour arrive at the antennas, where we leave the car. With all of our mountain equipment ready we head out over the Andean paramo (moorland) and along a rocky path which leads us to the final section of the mountain. After a well-deserved rest, we climb along the steep ridge to reach the summit, at 4,920 masl. Here we take in the incredible views of several other volcanoes, enjoy our packed lunch, and then return by the same route to the car for the drive back to Machachi.
